Rumors and Wires: Week of November 23, 2009

November 24, 2009

University School (Florida) DE Max Beaulieu has committed to the Syracuse Orangemen. Beaulieu is also being recruited by Illinois, Purdue and Wake Forest. He is also the second player from University School to commit to the Orangemen. Two weeks ago, teammate Brice Hawkes committed. Beaulieu is also the fourth player from University School to commit to a Division-I school from the 2010 class.

Though they are nowhere on his list, do not count out the University of Miami as a candidate for St. Thomas Aquinas High School athlete Lamarcus Joyner.

I am of the belief that the Florida Gators are the team in the lead for top rated linebacker Jeff Luc from Treasure Coast High School.

Rumors and Wires: Week of November 16, 2009

November 20th

Central (Miami, Fla.) quarterback Jeffrey Godfrey has passed for a Dade County career-record 6,543 yards. The previous record was 6,365 by Miami Northwestern star Jacory Harris.

Florida Head Coach Urban Meyer and defensive coordinator Charlie Strong were in attendance to see Jeff Luc play for Treasure Coast vs. Seminole Ridge in a playoff game last night. USC was also in attendance. Luc is reluctant to name a leader but I will proclaim the Gators to be the current leader for Luc’s services.

November 18th

University School (Davie, FL) Dwellie Striggles became the third player from the school to commit to a Division I program when he chose Turner Gil and Buffalo. Striggles was also being recruited by Colorado St. and Rutgers. View his highlight video - click here.

Palmdale H.S. (California) defensive back and Gridironstuds.com member Joshua Shaw has committed to Florida. Shaw is also being recruited by LSU, Miami, USC, Ohio St. and Notre Dame.

Elder H.S. (Ohio) Tight End Alex Smith has rescinded his commitment to Cincinnati. Smith is still being recruited by Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

November 17th

Tennessee has dismissed two of the three players involved in the armed robbery attempt at a convenience store last week. Head coach Lane Kiffin issued walking papers to Nu’keese Richardson from Pahokee H.S. in Florida and Mike Edwards of Glenville H.S. in Cleveland, Ohio.

- On a side note, one of the attempted robbery victims says the players should be allowed to play. Hilarious must read, click here. Things are rough out in Knoxville, son. LOL!

Woodberry Forest linebacker Aramide Olaniyan has committed to UCLA. Olaniyan first committed to Duke but backed off that commitment and reopened the recruiting process. After his recent visit to Westwood, Olaniyan felt like UCLA was the place and committed.

Recent quote from Northwestern High School (Miami, Fla) top rated wide receiver recruit Michaelee Harris “I really like all the playmakers that Miami has,” said Michaelee Harris about the Canes. “They have a good offense and they always produce good athletes. I think they’ll be getting back on top soon.” Harris says he grew up following the Hurricanes. “I like coach Randy Shannon and (wide receivers) coach Aubrey Hill. We talk a lot and have a real good relationship off the field.”

Recent quote from Miami Northwestern High School (Florida) highly recruited running back Corvin Lamb: “I was supposed to visit North Carolina this week,” Corvin Lamb said. “But I don’t think it’ll happen. I’ll probably take it after the season. UNC and Mississippi State stay in touch the most. They show a lot of interest in me. They both said that I could play receiver and running back and that they’d use me on special teams too.”

Kaiser H.S. (California) outside linebacker Josh Shirley enjoyed his second visit to Arizona recently. His first visit was to Washington back in September. Shirley has a lot of schools on his list but I am guessing he lands in Westwood playing for the Bruins.

November 16th

Culver City H.S. (California) linebacker and Gridironstuds.com member Victor Burnett has committed to Washington. Burnett is also being recruited by Arizona, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon St. and West Virginia.

Rumor has it that St. Thomas Aquinas H.S. (Florida) Offensive lineman Brandon Linder will commit to the Hurricanes today (Monday).

Pahokee H.S. (Florida) wide receiver Chris Dunkley was injured in his squad’s big “Muck Bowl” contest this past Saturday.

Glenville’s Latwan Anderson Goes Off

Senior’s Four Interceptions Leads Team to Playoff Win

He has proclaimed himself to be “the best in the nation” and Friday Night he stated his case. Senior transfer Latwan Anderson paid big dividends for Glenville High School and head coach Ted Ginn Sr. when plucked four St. Ignatius passes and returned them a combined 196 yards. Anderson’s biggest theft came as St. Ignatius was trying to state a comeback. Down 23-13, St. Ignatius drove into the red zone with the threat of a score. That was until Anderson stepped in front of a Mark Myer’s pass and raced 99 yards the other way for a touchdown. “That was the best game of my life,” Anderson was quoted as saying after the game. You can view Anderson’s exploits video amongst the other big plays in the exciting game from the video below courtesy of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Anderson’s jersey number is #1 (there’s a surprise!)

Luc falls, Prater and Anderson on the Rise in Latest Rivals 100

The latest Rivals 100 rankings are out and as expected there has been some movement.   We last reported on the Rivals Top 100 back on March 12th at which time Treasure Coast Linebacker Jeff Luc was the 10th ranked player overall in the country.  The most recent Rivals 100 has slid him 15 places to #25 in the country.  This is still a tremendous ranking however there have been complaints of inability to get off blocks, get to the football and make plays.  In the process,  Luc last his 5 star rating and is now rated 4 stars by Rivals.  I am sure somebody is going to have to pay for this.

Though he was not in the Rivals 100 the last time we reported on it,  Gridironstuds.com member Cody Riggs entered the Top 100 during the offseason and remained there until this most recent update.  Riggs has fallen out of the top 100 as others have had some strong performances and Riggs had a few ball caught on him in the nationally televised game against South Carolina Byrnes High School two weeks ago.  If you have played the cornerback position like I have then you know that these things will happen.  Kudos to Riggs and St. Thomas for taking on one of the top teams in the nation and stepping up to the challenge.

The biggest move by a Gridironstuds.com member since our last report in March has been by Glenville H.S. (Ohio) safety Latwan Anderson.  Back in March,  Anderson was ranked as the 66th best prospect in the country.   The latest Rivals 100 rankings has Anderson as the 18th best prospect in the country.   That’s an amazing move of 48 spots.  Anderson had a great summer and has not disappointed at his new address Glenville H.S. after transferring from St. Edwards where he played last season.

Proviso West H.S. (Illinois) wide receiver Kyle Prater was not a Gridironstuds.com member back in March but he is now and he is also the #2 ranked prospect in the entire country.  Prater is a physical specimen who plays to his body’s potential.  He is a USC commit and is having a fine season.  Lache Seastrunk maintains his 4th in the country rating and Seantrel Henderson holds at #1,  a spot he’s not likely to relinquish standing at 6′8″ and 301 lbs with enough athleticism to be a force on the basketball court.

The list below shows where all the Gridironstuds.com members are currently ranked against where they were ranked back in March.  Non member means they were not Gridironstuds.com members back in March of this year.

Player School Rank Rank in March
Seantrel Henderson Hall (MN) 1 1
Kyle Prater Proviso West (IL) 2 non member
Lache Seastrunk Temple (TX) 4 4
Lamarcus Joyner St. Thomas (FL) 14 7

Chris Martin Grandview (CO) 16 12
Latwan Anderson Glenville (OH) 18 66
Joshua Shaw Palmdale (CA) 23 non member

Atlantic’s Mark Leal Goes Off Again

The season’s still young but a quick start is always good.  A quick start is just what Delray Beach Atlantic High School quarterback Mark Leal is off to.   For the second straight game Leal tossed five touchdowns and threw for 268 yards.

Pretty impressive numbers in back to back games especially when you consider that the 10 touchdowns Leal has thrown through three games is just about half of his 2008 total of 21 TD’s.  Leal is currently a Virginia Tech commitment but if these type of performances continue,  he’s likely to get aggressive action from other D-I schools despite his pledge to the Hokies.

Last night,  Leal tossed 5 TD’s in a 33-0 victory over Boynton Beach.  Leal did this despite the game being called with 7 minutes left after an ugly brawl in the stands led to patrons spilling onto the field.  Who knows,  maybe Leal would have chucked a sixth touchdown.   Two of Leal’s five touchdowns were tossed to James Louis a fellow Gridironstuds.com member.  Louis is an Ohio St. Buckeye’s commit.

Check out highlight videos of both players:
