(Florida) WR Ivan McCartney with no time remaining for the 12-6 win over the West team.  Gridironstuds.com member Latwan Anderson was named the Defensive MVP.  Anderson played for the Midwest team which dealt the Southeast team their only loss in the tournament.   The offensive MVP of the tournament was Palm Beach, Fla Dwyer H.S. tight end Gerald Christian.

Martin Luther King H.S. (Georgia) running back Mack Brown has committed to Florida. Brown is also being recruited by Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia and Auburn.

Highly recruited LB and Gridironstuds.com member Jeff Luc has named a final four of Florida St., Florida, Georgia and LSU. Interestingly enough, the University of Miami was not named in Jeff’s top four. Many had considered him leaning towards the Hurricanes. Gators fans think he’s a Florida St. lean. Florida St. think he’s a Gator lean. I think Luc’s going to ride the process out as long as he can.

Top rated Gridironstuds.com wide receiver Kyle Prater has named his top six as Notre Dame, Alabama, Oklahoma, Illinois, Tennessee and USC.

Highly sought after quarterback from Lakewood H.S. (California) and Gridironstuds.com member Jesse Scroggins has chosen USC. Scroggins was also considering Florida, LSU, Arizona and wait for it… wait for it… Tennessee. Look at Scroggins’ highlight video, click here.

JAKHARI GORE UPDATE: After going back and forth with whether or not the University of Miami accepted the commitment of Jakhari Gore or not, I have confirmed from what I consider to be an EXTREMELY reliable source that the University of Miami HAS NOT accepted Gore’s commitment and the Columbus H.S. (Florida) running back will be most likely playing somewhere other than for the Hurricanes in his college career.

Top rated Dr. Phillips H.S. (Florida) wide receiver Kenny Shaw has named Florida St. as his top school after taking part in their camp this past weekend. Shaw says Georgia, Bama, Tennessee, Florida and Ohio St. are also teams in the running for his services in 2010.

East Lake H.S. (California) athlete Tony Jefferson has committed to UCLA. Jefferson rushed for 1,328 yards and 28 touchdowns last season and also recorded 88 tackles with four sacks on defense. Jefferson is also being recruited by Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Georgia, Miami, Florida, USC and wait for it…. wait for it…. TENNESSEE. It was earlier reported the Jefferson dropped USC from his list and that UCLA was not even on his top school list. I guess this kids favorite play is “the end run”.

Highly recruited Southwest DeKalb (Georgia) defensive end T.J. Stripling has become the 18th commitment for the Georgia Bulldogs from the 2010 class.

Jeff Luc is amongst several other highly recruited prep stars including several Gridironstuds.com members competing in the Gridiron Kings event at Disney Wide World of Sports this week. Luc will be joined by fellow Gridironstuds.com members Aramide Olaniyan and Kyle Prater. A total of 64 players will take part in the event. The Gridiron Kings is a three-day event featuring players at the seven skill positions: quarterback, running back, tight end, wide receiver, linebacker, cornerback and safety. It culminates in 7-on-7 competitions Saturday

Ohio (Glenville H.S.) defensive back and Gridironstuds.com member Latwan Anderson has ascended from #74 rated prospect in the country to #35. Anderson is now also rated the #2 safety in the country. Anderson’s strong showing in a couple of camps this summer has led to this move up the list. Check out some of Anderson’s camp highlights, click here now.

July 21st

Former Miami Hurricane quarterback Robert Marve has torn his ACL and will be out of practice at least until October. Marve has to sit out a year anyway but this injury prevents him from practicing and getting familiar with the offense and personnel at Purdue.

Frostproof H.S. (Florida) four star rated cornerback Nickell Robey has committed to the University of Georgia. Robey is also being recruited by Michigan, Ohio St., USF, Stanford, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Clemson and Florida. Robey has rushed for over 3,100 yards and has picked off 13 passes over the last two seasons.

West Virginia still running in first place for Ohio safety and Gridironstuds.com member Latwan Anderson. “West Virginia is my favorite. I really like their coaches. I enjoy talking to them and I like the family environment with their players,” Anderson said. Anderson announced a top six last month of West Virginia, Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, Miami and Michigan St. All but Michigan St. are recruiting him as a safety. Michigan St. likes him as a cornerback.

Top rated linebacker Jeff Luc landed on the Alabama Crimson Tide campus on Monday visiting the team, coaches and facility.

Provisio H.S. (Illinois) wide receiver and Gridironstuds.com member Kyle Prater has planned trip to Alabama before the start of the season. Prater has Alabama in his top 10. “What I like about Alabama is I love the SEC,” said Prater. “I love competition and they have it.”

#1 LB recruit in the nation Jeff Luc has enjoyed his visits to Miami, Florida and Florida St. but is not naming a leader or a top 5. Says USC is recruiting him hard and that he will make decision before December because he plans to graduate early and attend the school of his choice next spring.

Miami Northwestern cornerback Khalid Marshall has been offered by LSU.

James Potts (American Heritage, Delray) Florida has just received 3 new offers. The 5’11″ 190 lb. running back has received offers from Vanderbilt, Rutgers and Memphis.

Lamarcus Joyner was impressed with his weekend visits to Florida St. , Tennessee and Alabama. Reportedly a dead heat amongst those three schools and Ohio St. University of Miami recruiting him hard and still in the running, albeit outside of the top four.

April 21, 2009

Word is University of Miami’s Brandon McGee a top 2009 signee, who entered school early, clocked 40 times ranging from 4.19 to 4.26 during testing today. Needless to say this would be a record for Hurricane football.

Florida St. has offered Woodberry Forest, VA linebacker Aramide Olaniyan. As reported earlier, Olaniyan is a Duke Commit but this has not stopped Clemson and Florida St. from making their offers within the last week. I guess folks don’t have much respect for a Duke commit these days.

The University of Miami has made a scholarship offer to David Perry DE at University School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Perry also has offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida St., Kentucky, Ole Miss, Oregon, Purdue, South Carolina, Tennessee and Central Florida.

The Greg Paulus college tour will make a stop in Syracuse.

Former high school #1 recruit Matt Barkley has surpassed Mitch Mustain in reps at USC’s spring practice.

USC is the latest school to offer consensus #1 recruit Seantrel Henderson out of Minnesota. The ridiculously big 6’8″305 Henderson now has over 30 offers. Henderson’s USC offer came over the phone directly from head coach Pete Carroll. Many feel that Minnesota has a legit shot at landing this top prospect.

Former University of Miami quarterback Robert Mavre has announced his final 5 of teams he’s considering transferring to. After recently dropping Michigan and UCLA from the list, he has announced that the final 5 teams are: Nebraska, Texas Tech, Purdue, Arizona St. and South Florida.

April 20, 2009

Despite being an Oklahoma St. commit, Sand Springs, Oklahoma QB, Johnny Deaton has just been offered a scholarship from Kansas St. Deaton passed for 1874 (11 tds) and rushed for 1,665 (19t tds) in leading Charles Page high school last year.

Good news for WVU fans. Quote from Ohio Safety and Gridironstuds.com member Latwan Anderson ” in love with west virginia cant wait to go back I love that place.”

April 19, 2009

Rumors are that Demar Dorsey has eased off of Gator commit because of the depth in the secondary, playing time concerns and the recent commitment of Jaylen Watkins to Gators.

April 18, 2009

IN THE PIT: WR – Chris Dunkley vs. CB – Latwan Anderson

April 22nd, 2009

Chris Dunkley – WR – Royal Palm Bay, FL

VS. Latwan Anderson – CB – Lakewood, Oh

In our second edition of “IN THE PIT” we have matched up two of the best athletes in our Gridironstuds.com Database.

In one corner we have the highly recruited Chris Dunkley out of Royal Palm Bay High School in Royal Palm Bay, FL. There are no small plays with Dunkley. The routine play suddenly turns into a crowd on their feet and women screaming as Dunkley eats up the yardage. Blessed with game breaking speed and a thirst for the end zone, Dunkley found pay dirt 13 times last year and opened up a business where he was contracted to make defenders look stupid for free. At 5’11 169 he plays bigger than those numbers and runs a 4.43 forty but will that be enough…. View Chris Dunkley’s highlight video.

In the other corner…..

We have safety who could certainly play cornerback, Latwan Anderson. The recent transfer from St. Edwards High School to Glenville High School in Ohio, has made a name for himself. He boasts a 4.29 in the 40 and while we all hold high school 40 times with a degree of skepticism, Anderson makes a good case for it in his video. There are plenty of clips of him getting his hands on the ball and beating everyone to the endzone. He also shows some solid aggression. At 5’11″ 190 lbs., he’s bigger than Dunkley but is he quick enough to handle Dunkley’s shakes in a 1-on-1 situation?   Watch Latwan Anderson’s highlight video.

So, on a dark mid October Friday night in the Fall, if Anderson was assigned to follow wide receiver Dunkley around for 4 quarters from his cornerback spot, who would get the best of that battle? “In the Pit” wants to know.  Tell us now, CLICK HERE.

As an interesting side note,  The University of Miami has offers on the table for both of these athletes so there is the small chance that this battle could play out on a daily basis in practice on the Hurricanes” campus in the future.

A Miami Offer and Change of Address for Ohio’s Latwan Anderson

April 9th, 2009

It’s been a busy week for Ohio prep football star Latwan Anderson.  Last week he announced that he was departing St. Edward’s High School where he rose to stardom on the gridiron and on the track.  This week he landed at a new high school and landed a new offer from a big time college football program.

Anderson announced on Thursday that he will be playing football this Fall for Glenville High School under the watchful eye of Tedd Gin Sr.   Anderson will be attending Ginn Academy,  started by Ginn Senior while playing for Glenville this upcoming season.

That wasn’t the only news falling under Anderson’s name this week.  It is also being reported that Anderson landed an offer from the University of Miami this week further burgeoning the status of this Top 100 recruit.  Anderson is also holding offers from Michigan St., Michigan, West Virginia, Cincinnati and may have also recently received an offer from UCLA.

Anderson is being recruited as a defensive back but also played running back and wide receiver for St. Edwards in the two years that he played varsity football at the school.  Last season,  Anderson totaled 50 tackles, 5 interceptions and six touchdowns.   He was also a standout on special teams for St. Edwards.
