West Virginia Making In-roads in Palm Beach, FLa

September 15th, 2009

The word has been out for quite some time on Florida talent in high school football. As a result, out of state teams have been hitting the sunshine state hard and fast trying to snag some Florida speed and improve their teams. One of the teams making some head-way in one of the more important counties in the state of Florida is West Virginia.

Currently, WVU has four commitments from the list of the Top 40 players in Palm Beach County. Pahokee wide receiver Fred Pickett and Dwyer High School defensive back Robert Clark are Mountaineer commits along with Glades Central defensive back Travis bell and Heritage Delray athlete Darius Millines . In addition, West Virginia is in the lead for Glades Central running back Antwan Chisholm.

Compare that to national champs Florida who only have two commits out of that top 40 (#1 Matt Elam RB Dwyer H.S. and #4 Gerald Christian TE Dwyer High School). Miami has three commitments (#5 OL Shane McDermott – Palm Beach Central H.S., #32 Raheam Buxton – DB – Pahokee H.S. and #34 TE – Clive Walford – Glades Central H.S.). Florida St. only has one Palm Beach County Top 40 commit and that’s #7 De Joshua Johnson – WR – Pahokee H.S.

Several Gridironstuds Members Impress at ’09 Nike 7 on 7 Event

July 20th, 2009

Bridgewater, Dunkley, Johnson lead the Charge

Last week’s Nike 7 on 7 tournament in Beaverton, Oregon hosted some of the best high school football talent in the country and the players did not disappoint.

In the legion of stars on the fields, none shined brighter than Miami Northwestern quarterback and Gridironstuds.com member Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater led his team Miami Vapor Trail to the overall championship with precision passing and great athleticism. Through five games, Bridgewater was 150-103 for 68% completion rate. He totaled 1,739 yards passing and threw 19 TD’s against only one interception. With that kind of performance there’s little wonder why Vapor Trail took home the trophy.

Other Gridironstuds.com members putting up strong performances were Jesse Scroggins QB Lakewood H.S. (California), fellow Lakewood standout DB Dion Bailey. Pahokee High School’s Chris Dunkley and DeJoshua Johnson. Bridgewater’s Miami Northwestern teammates Michaelee Harris and Khambrel McGee. DeSoto H.S. (Texas) cornerback Adrian White.

There really were some outstanding individual performances, plays and displays of athleticism in the tournament. You have to be amazed at the level of speed, strength and power of the high school football players today.
