Rumors and Wires: Week of November 16, 2009

November 18th, 2009

November 20th

Central (Miami, Fla.) quarterback Jeffrey Godfrey has passed for a Dade County career-record 6,543 yards. The previous record was 6,365 by Miami Northwestern star Jacory Harris.

Florida Head Coach Urban Meyer and defensive coordinator Charlie Strong were in attendance to see Jeff Luc play for Treasure Coast vs. Seminole Ridge in a playoff game last night. USC was also in attendance. Luc is reluctant to name a leader but I will proclaim the Gators to be the current leader for Luc’s services.

November 18th

University School (Davie, FL) Dwellie Striggles became the third player from the school to commit to a Division I program when he chose Turner Gil and Buffalo. Striggles was also being recruited by Colorado St. and Rutgers. View his highlight video – click here.

Palmdale H.S. (California) defensive back and Gridironstuds.com member Joshua Shaw has committed to Florida. Shaw is also being recruited by LSU, Miami, USC, Ohio St. and Notre Dame.

Elder H.S. (Ohio) Tight End Alex Smith has rescinded his commitment to Cincinnati. Smith is still being recruited by Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

November 17th

Tennessee has dismissed two of the three players involved in the armed robbery attempt at a convenience store last week. Head coach Lane Kiffin issued walking papers to Nu’keese Richardson from Pahokee H.S. in Florida and Mike Edwards of Glenville H.S. in Cleveland, Ohio.

- On a side note, one of the attempted robbery victims says the players should be allowed to play. Hilarious must read, click here. Things are rough out in Knoxville, son. LOL!

Woodberry Forest linebacker Aramide Olaniyan has committed to UCLA. Olaniyan first committed to Duke but backed off that commitment and reopened the recruiting process. After his recent visit to Westwood, Olaniyan felt like UCLA was the place and committed.

Recent quote from Northwestern High School (Miami, Fla) top rated wide receiver recruit Michaelee Harris “I really like all the playmakers that Miami has,” said Michaelee Harris about the Canes. “They have a good offense and they always produce good athletes. I think they’ll be getting back on top soon.” Harris says he grew up following the Hurricanes. “I like coach Randy Shannon and (wide receivers) coach Aubrey Hill. We talk a lot and have a real good relationship off the field.”

Recent quote from Miami Northwestern High School (Florida) highly recruited running back Corvin Lamb: “I was supposed to visit North Carolina this week,” Corvin Lamb said. “But I don’t think it’ll happen. I’ll probably take it after the season. UNC and Mississippi State stay in touch the most. They show a lot of interest in me. They both said that I could play receiver and running back and that they’d use me on special teams too.”

Kaiser H.S. (California) outside linebacker Josh Shirley enjoyed his second visit to Arizona recently. His first visit was to Washington back in September. Shirley has a lot of schools on his list but I am guessing he lands in Westwood playing for the Bruins.

November 16th

Culver City H.S. (California) linebacker and Gridironstuds.com member Victor Burnett has committed to Washington. Burnett is also being recruited by Arizona, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon St. and West Virginia.

Pahokee H.S. (Florida) wide receiver Chris Dunkley was injured in his squad’s big “Muck Bowl” contest this past Saturday.

Several Gridironstuds Members Impress at ’09 Nike 7 on 7 Event

July 20th, 2009

Bridgewater, Dunkley, Johnson lead the Charge

Last week’s Nike 7 on 7 tournament in Beaverton, Oregon hosted some of the best high school football talent in the country and the players did not disappoint.

In the legion of stars on the fields, none shined brighter than Miami Northwestern quarterback and Gridironstuds.com member Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater led his team Miami Vapor Trail to the overall championship with precision passing and great athleticism. Through five games, Bridgewater was 150-103 for 68% completion rate. He totaled 1,739 yards passing and threw 19 TD’s against only one interception. With that kind of performance there’s little wonder why Vapor Trail took home the trophy.

Other Gridironstuds.com members putting up strong performances were Jesse Scroggins QB Lakewood H.S. (California), fellow Lakewood standout DB Dion Bailey. Pahokee High School’s Chris Dunkley and DeJoshua Johnson. Bridgewater’s Miami Northwestern teammates Michaelee Harris and Khambrel McGee. DeSoto H.S. (Texas) cornerback Adrian White.

There really were some outstanding individual performances, plays and displays of athleticism in the tournament. You have to be amazed at the level of speed, strength and power of the high school football players today.

IN THE PIT: WR – Chris Dunkley vs. CB – Latwan Anderson

April 22nd, 2009

Chris Dunkley – WR – Royal Palm Bay, FL

VS. Latwan Anderson – CB – Lakewood, Oh

In our second edition of “IN THE PIT” we have matched up two of the best athletes in our Gridironstuds.com Database.

In one corner we have the highly recruited Chris Dunkley out of Royal Palm Bay High School in Royal Palm Bay, FL. There are no small plays with Dunkley. The routine play suddenly turns into a crowd on their feet and women screaming as Dunkley eats up the yardage. Blessed with game breaking speed and a thirst for the end zone, Dunkley found pay dirt 13 times last year and opened up a business where he was contracted to make defenders look stupid for free. At 5’11 169 he plays bigger than those numbers and runs a 4.43 forty but will that be enough…. View Chris Dunkley’s highlight video.

In the other corner…..

We have safety who could certainly play cornerback, Latwan Anderson. The recent transfer from St. Edwards High School to Glenville High School in Ohio, has made a name for himself. He boasts a 4.29 in the 40 and while we all hold high school 40 times with a degree of skepticism, Anderson makes a good case for it in his video. There are plenty of clips of him getting his hands on the ball and beating everyone to the endzone. He also shows some solid aggression. At 5’11″ 190 lbs., he’s bigger than Dunkley but is he quick enough to handle Dunkley’s shakes in a 1-on-1 situation?   Watch Latwan Anderson’s highlight video.

So, on a dark mid October Friday night in the Fall, if Anderson was assigned to follow wide receiver Dunkley around for 4 quarters from his cornerback spot, who would get the best of that battle? “In the Pit” wants to know.  Tell us now, CLICK HERE.

As an interesting side note,  The University of Miami has offers on the table for both of these athletes so there is the small chance that this battle could play out on a daily basis in practice on the Hurricanes” campus in the future.

Wires and Rumors

April 16th, 2009

From the Rumor and Wires….

April 19, 2009

Recruits reported to have been at the University of Florida Spring game on Saturday. Matt Elam, Demar Dorsey, Gerald Christian, Quinton Dunbar, Ted Meline, Ivan McCartney, Gideo Ajagbe, Travis Bell, Richard Ash, James Louis, Brandon Linder, Gio Bernard, Vinnie Mauro, Kembrell Thompkins.

Rumors are that Demar Dorsey has eased off of Gator commit because of the depth in the secondary, playing time concerns and the recent commitment of Jaylen Watkins to Gators.

April 18, 2009

Highly recruited Skyline High School (Washington) QB and Gridironstuds.com member Jake Heaps has named his top 5 schools Scout.com is reporting. His five, in no particular order are BYU, California, LSU, Tennessee and Washington. Heaps is expected to make his college choice some time in the summer.

North Broward Prep High School (Florida) RB and Oregon commit Ethan Grant has been offered a scholarship by Wisconsin.

April 17, 2009

University of Miami landed commit from Terry Parker H.S.’s Tavadis Glenn. The Jacksonville, Florida prospect was being recruited by Arkansas, Florida, Florida St., Georgia and LSU.

Michigan landed a commit from Lake Region H.S. (Florida) safety Marvin Robinson. The 6’1″ 185 lb. prospect was also being recruited by Florida, Ohio St., South Florida, USC and UCLA.

Lamarcus Joyner had to skip Alabama trip this weekend for “family time”. Recently spent more time at Florida St. than originally planned. Reportedly enjoyed his visit.

April 16, 2009

Gainesville High School’s (Georgia) Tai-ler Jones is going to be a Stanford Cardinal. What a coup for Jim Harbaugh and his staff. They went down into Georgia and got themselves a playa! Kudos to them.

Miami Booker T. Washington High School’s top rated running back Eduardo Clements has apparently named his top 3 and they are as follows: (1) Georgia (2) Miami (3) Florida St.

New offer for Woodberry Forest, Virginia linebacker Aramide Olinayan from Clemson despite being a Duke commit.

April 15, 2009

Standout athlete, Tai-ler Jones from Gainesville High in Gainesville Georgia is set to announce his school of choice on tomorrow Thursday April 16th. Jones has offers from Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio St. , UCLA, Stanford and more. Check back here on April 16th for his choice.

Highly recruited University School (Davie, FL) defensive end David Perry enjoyed his Spring Break trip to the University of Florida and has moved them to the top of his list. Perry also visited Central Florida and South Florida during Spring Break.

There’s a rumor floating around that Royal Palm Beach wide receiver Chris Dunkley has a silent verbal commitment to the University of Florida. How do these silent verbals work anyway? What do they do, give a head nod? Then again, there’s also the rumor that if Ohio St. offers him at their spring game which he allegedly will be attending, Dunkley will accept on the spot. Sounds like a Buckeye contrived rumor to me.

Recruits spotted at Notre Dame’s spring game last weekend: Kyle Prater, Corey Cooper, Spencer Boyd, Cody Riggs, Khairi Fortt, Zach FUlton, Lucky Radley, Laken Tomlinson, Tony Jefferson, Detric Riley, Dominic Easley, Dakota Roye.

SoFlaFootball.com reports 4 new offers this month for WR – Shawn Corker (Tennessee, Auburn, West Virginia and Oregon). Despite that, rumors persist that a commitment to the Texas Tech Raiders is coming any day now.

Tomahawknation.com is reporting that Boyd Anderson S Demar Dorsey may be reopening his recruitment after committing to Florida earlier this year.
