Glades’ L.J. Thomas Still Underrated and Understated
Posted by Chad Wilson in High School Football on September 23rd, 2009
Playing on one of the perennial top teams in the state and the country hasn’t been enough. Throwing for 26 TD’s as a junior wasn’t enough and taking his team deep into the playoffs in 2008 wasn’t enough. Perhaps starting the season off with 701 passing yards and nine touchdowns with no interceptions will be enough to start getting Leron Thomas the looks he deserves.
The senior quarterback from Glades Central High School in Belle Glade, Florida continues to be under-recruited despite the accomplishments I laid out above. Thomas has a cannon for an arm, displays great decision making on the field and has a great command of the offense. All three of those assets were on display last Friday when Glades Central ripped American Heritage Delray 33-14. Thomas ended the game with 22 for 36 with 382 yards and five touchdowns. Thomas’ five touchdowns were to four different players.
I am not sure what else recruiters want to see but right now, Thomas is hot and continues to produce. Perhaps he is the victim of being surrounded by great talent but that should not be held against him. Thomas may have a few technical flaws but what quarterback doesn’t? I am figuring sooner or later, the college programs will open their eyes and jump on this prospect. Right now, Michigan, FIU, FAU and a handful of others are showing interest but this list should be larger. Perhaps Thomas’ under-recruitment has been a motivating factor and if that is the case, get ready for more fireworks from Thomas and the Glades Central passing attack.

8-05: Video of the Day: Aaron Aiken - QB - Morristown, New Jersey
Posted by Chad Wilson in Video of the Day on August 5th, 2009
There’s this thing known as raw ability and Lawerenceville High School quarterback Aaron Aiken has it in big supply. The 6′5″ signal caller transferred in to Lawerenceville midway through the season and punched up 800 yards and 4 touchdowns in five games. Those are not eye popping numbers but when you consider that he came into the fold midway through the season and had to pick up a new system, I will take those numbers any day. Check out Aaron’s video as he surveys the field, rockets passes into his receivers and pulls it down to rack up some of the 300 yards he put up on the ground for Lawerenceville Prep last year. New Offer for North Florida Christian’s Clint Trickett After Spring Break Road Trip
Posted by Chad Wilson in High School Football on April 9th, 2009
North Florida Christian’s Clint Trickett did what a lot of potential college football recruits did over their spring break and that is take a college campus road trip.
Trickett visited Mississippi, Louisville, Western Kentucky and Arkansas during his campus tour and came away from the trip with an offer from the Arkansas Razorbacks. Trickett also came away really impressed with Western Kentucky.
“Western Kentucky surprised me the most,” said Trickett. “Their facilities were some of the best I’ve seen along with a great staff.”
Trickett says he loved Arkansas and is also receiving steady interest from Mississippi, Louisville, Wake Forest and Tennessee. Trickett described Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffen’s methods as “interesting” and he’s waiting to see if they work. He is impressed with some of the high profile recruits Kiffen has managed to land in a short space of time.
Trickett is the son of current Florida St. offensive line coach Rick Trickett. When asked if his dad gets involved in his recruiting process, Trickett replied, “No, not at all.”
With some interest from other ACC schools, there’s the chance that Trickett could face his Dad’s team in the future. To the thought of that, Trickett displayed his strong self confidence with the following response, “I love FSU and all the coaches and players but then again, I’d love to beat them.”
Trickett put up 2,400 yards passing along with 25 touchdowns last season. He also added 400 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. He will continue to be a notable recruiting target during this upcoming season.
4/01: Video of the Day-Leron Thomas-QB -Belle Glade, FL
Posted by Chad Wilson in Video of the Day on April 1st, 2009
Today’s video of the day comes out of the Muck and Belle Glade, FL. Glades Central QB Leron Thomas is flying under the radar but that’s not likely to last long. Plenty of college football programs travel down to the 4.7 square mile area in the southern region of Florida to stock their rosters with the highest concentrated area of talent in the country. There’s little chance that they will miss the skills of Thomas who made an impact leading Glades Central to the playoffs. Watch the bombs come raining down on the opposition in this highlight tape as he makes use of the speedy wide receivers and his rocket arm. Thomas athleticism makes him a threat to hurt you when things break down but make no mistake, Thomas can sit in the pocket and whiz it. Notice him putting the ball on the money and fitting it into tight spots. View Leron Thomas’ highlight video.

Ft. Pierce Central quarterback Tim Smith has been flying under the radar but that’s about to change. Smith’s Gridironstuds.com video has been making the rounds and after taking part in the Elite 11 Region QB Camp two weeks ago, people are starting to notice. Tim was a top performer at the camp showing accuracy, quickness and poise. Though he is still waiting for his first offer, the 6′2″ 185 lb signal caller has caught the eye of Duke, Oregon, Illinois, Florida St., Syracuse, Minnesota and Cincinnati. It’s only a matter of time before the offers roll in. Smith lists his favorite schools as Georgia, Miami, Florida and LSU. He will be attending the Nike Combine in Miami on March 21st and was invited to the Miami Nike Camp on March 29th. Check out Tim Smith’s Highlight video.

Today’s video of the day comes from Inglewood, California and Inglewood High School. Quarterback Brandon Summers is starting to get attention. Someone had to throw all of those crisp passes to top rated 2009 wide out Shaquelle Evans and Brandon Summers was the guy. Quick feet and great pocket presence makes Summers a real find in the quarterback game. Check out his solid highlights on his video.
