May 30th

Tennessee Volunteers are up to 187 offers out there to 2010 recruits. Full story

SoFlaFootball.com is reporting that St. Thomas Aquinas cornerback Keion Payne has two new offers from Auburn and Virginia.

SEC looking to put a cap on football signees. This measure is being looked into hard after Mississippi signed 37 players to their 2009 class. Currently the NCAA allows you to enroll 25 players in your recruiting class but there’s no cap on the amount you can sign. Many teams over sign their classes knowing that some won’t qualify and they can send them to prep schools and junior colleges.

May 29th

Highly recruited Cardinal O’Hara H.S. (Pennsylvania) RB/WR Corey Brown has named a top 10 of Alabama, Florida, Ohio St., Penn St., West Virginia, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Miami, Florida St. and Clemson.

Big time Corona H.S. (California) running back Jordon James has just received offers from Miami and Nebraska. James also has offers from Arizona St., California, Florida, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Washington amongst many others. The 5’10” 190 lb. James boasts a 4.37 time in the 40 and racked up 1,132 yards rushing last season on just 130 carries.

Pahokee H.S. (Florida) players cornerback Merril Noel and linebacker Zachary Allen will make their public commitment announcements on Monday. Noel’s finalists are Wake Forest, Georgia, Florida St. and West Virginia. Allen’s finalists are Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Purdue.

May 28th

Top rated cornerback and Gridironstuds.com member Darius Robinson has been on fire and now has 20 offers on the table. Schools like West Virginia, Michigan, Stanford, North Carolina and Maryland are on his trail. However, Robinson says Miami is at the top of his list.

The Florida Gators are the latest to offer American Hertiage-Delray (Florida) athlete Darius Millines. Millines now has 11 offers including Miami, West Virginia and Wake Forest.

Skyline H.S. (Washington) QB and Gridironstuds.com member Jake Heaps top two are Washington and BYU.

Michigan freshman QB Tate Forcier could be a force in landing top rated San Diego running back Brennan Clay. Full story.

Apopka H.S. (Florida) defensive back and Gridironstuds.com member Lo Wood says he plans on leaving the state of Florida when he makes his college choice. Wood, who has in state offers from Central Florida, Florida International and FAU lists Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Louisville as his favorites.

Manning high school (South Carolina) defensive back John Fulton lists his top 5 as Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee in that order.

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier took the opportunity to direct some comments right at Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffen during yesterday’s round of the SEC Spring meetings. Reporters told Spurrier about Kiffen’s comments about Spurrier failing to apologize to Kiffen after Spurrier made comments about Kiffen having not taken a recruiting test before contacting a recruit. Spurrier, upon hearing this, turned to Kiffen who was waiting for an elevator and told him “I didn’t accuse of cheating” while pointing at Kiffen. Kiffen turned red faced and said nothing as Spurrier continued his comments into the elevator which also held, Kentucky’s Rich Brooks, Auburn’s Gene Chizik and Arkansas’ Bobby Petrino. It’s all Kiffen, all the time. Again, I hope this guy wins some games.

May 27th

We hear that Northwestern High School (Florida) and Gridironstuds.com member Corvin Lamb may have received an offer from the Oklahoma Sooners. Lamb who has been a backup to talented D-I backs for the last two seasons, has confirmed offers from Kansas St., Michigan, Ole Miss, Mississippi St., North Carolina, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and FIU. The 4.3 speedster rushed for 350 yards last season averaging 11.3 yards per carry. It is believed that Lamb likes the Gators but has not been offered by the defending champs.

Miami Pace quarterback Stephen Morris, a rising prospect lists Purdue and Miami amongst his favorites. In an interview with Ft. Lauderdale based Elite Scouting Services, Morris stated, “Purdue stands out the most right now. They have a great coach in Gary Nord.” Morris also said that he likes Miami’s Mark Whipple and the fact that he coached in the NFL. Morris recently received a scholarship offer from Northwestern.

Luther Burbank H.S. (California) Terrance Mitchell, not to be confused with Terrence Mitchell from Florida, has committed to Oregon. The cornerback out of Sacramento also had offers from Washington St. and Utah.

Former University of Miami Linebacker Glen Cook, who went undrafted and unsigned by the NFL, may have a shot at a pro baseball career. Cook has worked out for the Chicago Cubs and could be in the upcoming draft day plans for the Cubbies. Apparently Cook, a left handed thrower and hitter is smooth on the diamond and has “something to work with” according to a knowledgeable scout. Cook spent six years at Miami due to a medical redshirt and earned three degrees, one of which is a Master’s, has not played baseball since his high school days at Chaminade in Hollywood, Fla.

May 26th

West Lake High School’s (Georgia) Darius Robinson has been offered a scholarship by Michigan. The plays making cornerback now has 17 offers with Miami, North Carolina, Maryland, UCF, Kentucky, Duke, USF, West Virginia, Purdue, Middle Tennessee St., Mississippi St., Toledo, Southern Miss., East Carolina, Stanford and Wake Forest all vying for his services.

Highly recruited Elder H.S. (Cincinnati) TE and Gridironstuds.com member Alex Welch has chosen Notre Dame. Welch, an admitted Notre Dame fan growing up, is also being recruited by Ohio St., Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Michigan and Michigan St.

Top rated Steamboat Springs H.S. (Colorado) quarterback Austin Hinder has chosen California as his school. Hinder is a top 100 prospect at most services that provide rankings. He said that he thinks he fits in well at California in their pro style offense. Hinder is also being recruited by Notre Dame, Florida St., UCLA, Colorado, Stanford, Nebraska, Alabama and others.

Tennessee landed Gulliver Prep H.S. (Miami, FLa) linebacker Ralph Williams. Williams was also being recruited by Florida St., Mississippi, Arkansas and FIU.

There’s a rumor circulating that Westlake Village H.S. (California) QB Nick Montana (son of Joe) has committed to Notre Dame. We should not be shocked by this if it’s true.

May 25th

Lamarcus Joyner’s lists his six schools as Florida St., Ohio St., Florida, Georgia, USC and Tennessee. Says he likes Vols coach Lane Kiffen. Joyner says he’s lived in Miami for 18 years. He wants to get away, experience life away from Miami and grow as a person. Hurricanes are not on his list.

University of Tennessee will be out recruiting hard for quarterbacks this year now that former Miami Hurricane Robert Marve has chosen Purdue. Among the targets for Tennessee are Skyline H.S. (Washington) Jake Heaps, Andrew Hendrix from Moeller H.S. (Ohio) and Jesse Scroggins from Lakeland H.S. (California). Tennessee also likes Blake Bell who is an Oklahoma commit and will take a long look at a pair of junior college prospects in Cameron Newton (Blinn Community College) and Matt Sims from El Camino College in California. Newton is a former Gator and Simms is a former Louisville Cardinal.

Confirming what has already been observed by many. Michigan St. head coach Mark Dantonio has stated that recruiting Florida this year is a big priority. Dantonio said he loves the defensive ends and linebackers that the Sunshine State produces and obviously the skill positions are rich and talent and tradition.
