Ride is Over for Latwan Anderson at Miami

It was over just as quick as it started.  According to several reports,  Latwan Anderson, one of the top recruits from the 2010 class, is done as a Miami Hurricane.

Anderson was an interesting story from day one.  He was a West Virginia commit for quite some time during his senior year of high school but pumped the brakes on finalizing on National Signing Day in February of 2010.   The soap opera ensued as to where Anderson was going to land for his college career.  Many assumed the Ohio product would end up a Buckeye after they made a late offer to the two sport star.   Eventually,  Anderson began expressing his interest through social media and this site Gridironstuds.com of the University of Miami.

With Miami’s 2010 class being full,  Anderson took a track scholarship with the Hurricanes with the plan being to parlay it into a football scholarship when the opportunity presented itself.  However, things did not go as planned this past Fall.  Anderson became disenchanted with the way he was treated by the previous staff under former head coach Randy Shannon and eventually left school.  It is believed that Anderson did so prior to taking exams and put himself in academic jeopardy.

New head coach Al Golden had an interest in returning Anderson to the Hurricane roster to bolster a secondary in need of some talent with the graduation of Demarcus Van Dyke and the early entry of Brandon Harris into the NFL draft.  Anderson was in apparent contact with Golden about returning and went so far as to take a flight back to Miami within the last 24 hours.  However,  reports have stated that Anderson failed to meet requirements as an athlete, apparently missing some meets as a track athlete and as a student referring to missing finals which would have had an adverse effect on his grades.

It’s unfortunate for both parties as the Hurricanes could have used Anderson’s speed and playmaking ability in the secondary and Anderson could have benefited from a career at “The U”.   Anderson plays the game with an extreme amount of passion but unfortunately,  Anderson’s passion does not end on the field and has led to some mistakes that have cost him.   I wish Anderson luck in the pursuit of his college football career and hope he lands on his feet at  a solid program.
