Foley and Luc Win Honors Then Lead Titans to First Playoff Win

2009 Continues to be a season of first for Treasure Coast High School football. For the first time in their history they have two players on the All FACA All District team. For the first time in their history they have an All 6-A player for the FACA District. For the first time in their history they have reached the playoffs and for the first time in their history they have won a playoff contest.

Two athletes who have played a big part in these achievements were on full display on Thursday. Early in the day, linebacker Ed Foley was voted to the All FACA District team along with his teammate, the highly recruited Jeff Luc. The FACA District covers 47 teams and covers the very fertile ground from Vero Beach to the North and Boca Raton to the South. It also stretches far enough West to include Pahokee and Belle Glade. You don’t need to be from the state of Florida to have an idea of what kind of talent that includes.

Along with the all district honors, linebacker Jeff Luc was named the All FACA District 6-A player of the Year. Both Foley and Luc celebrated their honors by taking to the field Thursday Night before notable college coaches like Urban Meyer, Florida’s Charlie Strong and USC’s Todd McNair to help the Titans garner their first ever playoff win 28-10 over Seminole Ridge. Down 10-0 in the first half, Luc broke through and blocked a Seminole Ridge field goal attempt. On the ensuing series, Treasure Coast narrowed the gap to 10-7. Foley turned in the biggest play of the game for the Titans early in the 2nd half. Still down 10-7, Foley blocked a Seminole Ridge punt and had the presence of mind to recover it at the two yard line and take it into the end zone to give Treasure Coast the lead for good. On the following series, Luc would recover a fumble to kill Seminole Ridge’s hopes for a quick answer.

In the end, Treasure Coast triumphed 28-10 for head coach Bill Kelley who was also named District FACA 6-A Coach of the Year. Treasure Coast will not await the winner of the Boca Raton Vero Beach contest on Friday Night.
